What Mask Are You Wearing?

No, really. What mask are you wearing?

Today, you might be gearing up to don masks or costumes to be your hero, a historical icon, or a silly or nostalgic character.

It's acceptable and expected that you show up as something or someone else.

In real life, though, you might be working overtime to show up as someone you're not, to shrink or dim your light because you're afraid of being "too much," or convince yourself to stay in a career that sucks your soul dry because it "looks good" to others.

By shrinking or dimming who you are, not only do you rob people of the benefit of experiencing your gifts and all you have to offer, but you ultimately betray yourself.

When you work hard to be someone you're not, you'll fail 100% of the time. Doing so also reinforces a false belief you're not good enough.

Instead, try JOY: Just Own You

I continue to share this idea of connecting with one's authentic self with clients who are trying to fit someone else's expectations of them. It helps them connect with the version of themselves they want to be and to have the courage to pursue what they want to pursue -- with less fear of judgement from others.

After today, take that mask off and work to own who you are.

Happy Halloween!
